9/5 Pre-Week Brief Newsletter

Let’s take a look at the week ahead!

The stock market is closed tomorrow due to Labor Day!

However, the fun will pick back up on Wednesday when job openings numbers come out. Last time they were counted they were just above 10.1 million. I’ll be interested in what this week’s numbers say. I would guess slightly lower than previous as many are being weened off of government stimulus and other similar programs.

On Thursday, initial jobless claims come out! These claims were roughly 340,000 last report. This is a harder number to predict. I do know that whatever the number is, it will likely shake the stock market. The market tends to be fairly sensitive to most government and Fed reports. The market is a bit more sensitive to results versus expectations in jobless claims numbers.

To top the week off, producer price index and revised wholesale inventories numbers are coming out. I predict wholesale inventories to be up.

Large retailers like Walmart (evidence in Follow the Money) preparing for the holiday season.

Companies likely are preparing for the worst case scenario (the Delta variant) persisting too.

It is hard to accurately guess where the producer price index report will stand. The market is going to tilt one way or the other in the coming weeks (even months or years). I am not sure the producer price index numbers will provide a full and fair picture; this is partially why it’s hard to predict.
